Area 1622 closing to oyster harvesting at sunset

The Department of Agriculture will close area 1622 to Oyster harvesting at sunset today.

1622 is the Conditionally Approved Winter West Shellfish Harvest Area.

The area was closed because of high river levels.

The Apalachicola River rose to over 16 feet at Blountstown on Saturday and that water is now making its way into the Apalachicola Bay.

Area 1612 was closed on Sunday for the same reason.

Biologists will sample the waters from the sites before reopening them to oyster harvesting.
