The Franklin
County Commission will schedule a public hearing in the near future to discuss proposed
changes to the county’s Zoning Code.
The Planning and Zoning
Commission began reviewing local zoning codes this year because county’s zoning
code has not been substantially updated since 1989.
Its old enough that it still
refers to the state’s environmental regulatory agency as the Dept. of Natural
Resources which hasn’t existed since the mid 1990’s.
County planner Alan Pierce said
most of the changes are to remove outdated information – there are no changes
to zoning standards or uses.
There is a recommendation that
the Planning and Zoning Commission itself be reduced to a 5 member board with a
single member from each county commission district.
The Planning and Zoning
commission has been operating with less than a full board for several years.
The county commission will have
to adopt the new zoning code but only after a public hearing.
The county will schedule the
public hearing after the county attorney has had a chance to look over the changes.
