ANERR and Coast Guard planning for fuel spill disaster drill

The Apalachicola Research Reserve and the US Coast Guard will hold a disaster drill this month to see how local groups would respond to a fuel spill in the bay.
The disaster drill will be held on the Apalachicola Bridge causeway.
It is a mock scenario of two fuel trucks colliding on the causeway portion of the John Gorrie Bridge resulting in a spill of fuel into the bay.
Traffic will not be blocked during the exercise and no fuel will actually enter the bay but there will be a lot of activity on the causeway.
The training will include the Apalachicola, Eastpoint and the St. George Island Volunteer Fire Departments, the Franklin County Sheriff’s office, and the Apalachicola Police Department.
It will also include the Franklin County Emergency Management office, the Florida Highway Patrol, the Bay County Hazardous Materials Team, Gulf Unmanned Systems, and the State office of Emergency Response.

The disaster drill will happen on Tuesday, April 21st from 8 till 5.
