The
Apalachicola airport just had its annual inspection, and it passed, but there
is some work that needs to be done.
During the inspection it was noted
that some of the runways need repainting, which according to County planner
Alan Pierce costs about 200 thousand dollar per runway.
Airport manager Jason Puckett said
some of the runways were downgraded from good to fair or from fair to poor.
He added that most of the other
issues were small like cutting grass and cutting back brushlines.
The Department of Transportation was
at the inspection and hopefully be able to provide some money to pay for the runway
remarking.
Commissioners said they would like
the airport manager to begin pushing harder to bring new businesses to the
airport and also asked that more be done to train local people for airport
related jobs so local can benefit when businesses do move here.
