Former deputy arrested for vandalizing video cameras at Lanark Boat Club

Former sheriff’s deputy Spence Massey was arrested today after he was caught on video damaging video equipment at the Lanark Boat yard.
Mister Massey is currently on pre-trial release for a rash of burglaries at the Boat yard in 2014.
According to the sheriff’s office, the recent vandalism happened on April the 14th – the sheriff’s office was alerted to the incident on the 16th.
They found that someone had broken the conduit and service wires to several of the cameras at the boat yard which were installed after the burglaries in 2014.
Officials were able to enhance video from the incident and several deputies were able to identify Spence Massey.
The sheriff’s department said they do not believe Mister Massey was trying to steal anything, but that this incident was an act of retaliation against the boat yard for providing video to authorities during the original burglaries in 2014.

Massey has been charged with retaliation against a witness causing property damage and is currently being held at the Franklin county jail.
