Oyster
harvesting licenses will go on sale in May and if you plan on getting one don’t
forget you have to go to an educational seminar first.
The shellfish
harvesting and handling training is required for all oyster harvesters by the
Federal Food and Drug Administration.
This is the
second year that requirement has been in place.
You can
start taking the seminar next week at the shellfish center at Scipio Creek in
Apalachicola.
The training
will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 3 PM.
Once you have completed the
seminar you can purchase your Oyster harvesters license starting on May the 18th.
You can get your saltwater
products license at the same time.
The
cost of the license is still 100 dollars for Florida residents and 500 dollars
for non-residents as long as you buy your license by June 30th.
