Three companies have bid to Repair the roof on the Historic Chapman auditorium in Apalachicola.
There was one company from Mexico Beach and two from Tallahassee – their bids ranged from 169 thousand dollars to over 250 thousand dollars.
The county only has 160 thousand dollars budgeted for the work, that includes a 50 thousand dollar historic preservation grant as well as some county money.
County administrative director Alan Pierce said the county will have to negotiate with whichever company is hired to bring the costs within budget.
The county had hoped that the City of Apalachicola would help with the repair costs and take over the auditorium for use as the city’s library.
The city, however, said it plans to build a new library building next to the Chapman Auditorium but might be interested in taking over the auditorium in the future so it can continue to be used for shows and events.
The bids will be considered by the project architect for a recommendation at the next County Commission meeting.
