Gulf World
Marine Institute in Panama City will release two sea turtles into the Gulf at
the St. George Island state park on Wednesday.
Gulf World will release a young
loggerhead sea turtle named “Wishbone” that has been at Gulf World for several
months.
She arrived severely emaciated
and anemic.
She has been staying at Gulf
World gaining weight and receiving iron supplements to help restore her red
blood cells.
The second turtle is an
endangered Kemp’s Ridley turtle that was rescued from a cold stun event in New
England last winter.
There were 73 turtles rescued,
and this is one of the last to be released.
It was being treated for
pneumonia.
If you would like to watch the
turtle release - the public is invited to come out and bring cameras.
The release will happen at noon
on Wednesday, May 6th at St. George Island State Park.
Get there early for a good view.
