Power was out for a part of Cape San Blas on Saturday after
a car accident damaged a power pole.
The highway patrol said 63 year old Donald Merrifield of
Laurel Hill was heading east of 30A just before 2 o’clock on Saturday when he
became ill.
He lost consciousness while pulling over to the side of the
road and his Ford F-150 hit a power pole, leaving the power lines unsecured.
Luckily Mister Merrifield was uninjured in the crash, but
30A had to be shut down while Duke Energy repaired the pole and re-secured the
power lines.
The roadway was reopened at about 7:30 Saturday evening.
