Island restaurant plan tabled while commission waits for ethics decision

Franklin County commissioners on Tuesday tabled a decision on a proposed 80 seat restaurant on St. George Island to allow for an ethics commission decision on whether one of the commissioners can legally vote on the matter.
The board was being asked for Commercial Site Plan approval for “Loula and Dan”, an 80 seat single service restaurant which would be located in the center of the island.
The dining would be open air patio style because the kitchen, restrooms and ice/cooler would be portable, so the whole restaurant could evacuate during a major storm.
The county’s planning and zoning board voted three to two to deny the site plan, but commissioners said there were some questions about that vote.
Commissioner Smokey Parrish said he cannot vote on the issue until the state ethics commission says he can because his wife works for one of the parties involved.

Once the ethics commission rules then the board said it will discuss the pros and cons of the proposal.
