Permits to
hunt black bear in Florida are now on sale.
The Florida
Fish and Wildlife Conservation commission approved black bear hunting this
summer – it’s the first time hunters in Florida have been able to take black
bears in 21 years.
This year, Florida’s bear hunting season will open October 24th and could run as long as seven days
depending on if and when a Bear Management Unit’s bear harvest objective is
met.
Permitted
hunters are guaranteed the opportunity to hunt the first two days.
However,
starting on the second evening, hunters must verify each day with the FWC to
determine whether the allowed number of bears taken by hunters in our area has been met.
There
is no limit to how many Special-Use Bear Permits are available.
Bear hunting permits cost $100 for residents and $300 for
nonresidents.
Hunters are limited to buying only one permit.
It remains illegal to sell any parts of a bear or its
hide.
Special-use bear permits are available for purchase through October 23rd
at tax collectors’ offices and retail outlets that sell hunting and fishing
supplies.
They are also available through the internet at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com or by calling toll free 888-HUNT-FLORIDA.
