Florida Taxwatch recognizes Chimene Johnson as a top-performing principal

The Florida Taxwatch group recognized Apalachicola Bay charter School principal Chimene Johnson on Monday as one of Florida’s top performing principals.
Mrs. Johnson is one of 6 principals who received the Florida Taxwatch Principal Leadership Award this year – and one of only two elementary School principals.
She has served as principal of the ABC school since 2010.
During that time the ABC school has consistently been given an A or B grade by the state of Florida.
The Principal Leadership Award is based on student achievement gains in reading and mathematics in schools that have a high percentage of students with disabilities, students designated as English as Second Language Learners and students eligible for free and reduced lunch.
The award is the only honor given to principals who exceed expected learning gains for at-risk students in low-income, high-risk schools.
Florida Taxwatch doesn’t take nominations for the award – it is an entirely a data driven program.
The taxwatch group held an award ceremony at the Apalachicola Bay charter school on Monday.
It was attended by students, teachers, school board members and school superintendent Nina Marks.

Mrs. Johnson will also be recognized later this week by the State Board of Education.
