Franklin County
has agreed to rejoin the Florida Shore and Beach Preservation Association.
The
group acts as a league of coastal cities and counties focused on the
preservation of Florida’s sandy beaches.
The group provides information to
the Florida Legislature and Congress on beach preservation issues and funding
and also works with local, state, and federal agencies to promote effective
beach management.
Franklin
County was the only coastal county in Florida not already a member.
The
County did have a membership in the past, but dropped out when we stopped
having beach re-nourishment projects.
The
membership costs 500 dollars a year – District 1 commissioner Rick Watson said
he would represent the county on the board though there is no requirement to
attend the meetings.
