Red Tide still showing up in area waters

Red Tide is an organism that in large enough concentrations can kill fish and cause skin, throat and lung irritation in humans.

According to the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute, red tide was found in background to high concentrations in 12 water samples collected last week along and offshore of Gulf and Bay counties.

It was not found in samples taken from Franklin county last week.

Extensive fish kills and respiratory irritation have been reported at Mexico Beach and Windmark beach in Bay County as well as Cape San Blas, Stone Memorial State Park, Eagle Harbor, and Massalina Bayou in Gulf County.

State officials say they expect very little movement of the bloom patch over the short term.
