Franklin County TDC Launches Fall and Winter Getaways The Franklin County Tourist Development Council (FCTDC) launched two coastal getaways recently designed to draw folks to St. George island during New Year's and to the area's cultural events and activities later this winter.

Mardi Gras Barkus Parade Feb. 6The Mystic Krewe of Salty Barkers will host a Mardi Gras Barkus Parade on Feb. 6 in Apalachicola. The theme for this year is Woofstock. Dogs dressed as hippies, flower pooches, the Grateful Dogs - with their people in similar garb. An after party with authentic Cajun food, refreshments, games, a picture booth, live music and dancing. Come immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes promised by this fun event. All proceeds go to the Apalachicola City Dog Park and the Franklin County Humane Society. Forgotten Coast Chef Sampler Feb. 14The Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce will host the 16th Annual Forgotten Coast Chefs Sampler on Sunday, February 14, 2016, from 6:00-9:00 pm. Chefs from all over the Forgotten Coast will prepare their most creative dishes at the historic Fort Coombs Armory located on 4th Street and Avenue D in Apalachicola. Apalachicola Christmas Celebration Nov. 27-28 The day after Thanksgiving the streets of Apalachicola will be lined with luminaries and filled with holiday spirit. Merchants will be open late and Santa arrives on a shrimp boat at 4:00 p.m. at the City Dock on Water Street. Learn more here.

Eastpoint Christmas Parade Dec. 11 Eastpoint will host an old-fashioned Christmas parade along US Highway 98 with food, music and Santa on Friday, December 11beginning at 4 pm.
Carrabelle Holiday on the Harbor Dec. 12Carrabelle's docks will be lit with glittering boats as part of the annual Holiday on the Harbor Boat Parade. The event will also feature fireworks. Learn more here.
St. George Island Christmas Fest Dec. 4Santa is coming to St. George Island on Friday, December 4 at 4pm at the St. George Island Lighthouse Park. A one mile Jingle Jog starts at 4:30pm on the bike path in front of Lighthouse Park. Local children’s choruses will be performing holiday musical selections throughout the event. Oyster Cookoff Jan. 15-16 The 6th Annual Apalachicola Oyster Cook-Off to benefit the Apalachicola Volunteer Fire Department will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 fromnoon till 5 p.m. There will be a Friday evening (Jan. 15) preview of the oyster-related silent auction items, along with a sampling of the Apalachicola Bay's tasty bivalves from 6-8 pm. The actual cook-off on Saturday will start at12 noon, Judging starts at 3 pm. Contestants are encouraged to enter with their favorite recipe. All forms of oysters will be available to taste: raw, steamed, fried. Other food items and refreshments will be available for purchase also. The day's activities will include live music and dancing performances.
This annual event features a silent auction, oysters galore, shrimp, smoked mullet, hot dogs, hamburgers, local beer, live music, kids’ activities, dancing performances and a 5K run!
