Fishing
for greater amberjack in state waters is now off-limits until next year but red
grouper fishing is still open.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission voted last week to
close the recreational fishery in state waters for the rest of the year.
The closure began on Saturday.
Greater amberjack will close in federal waters on November 28th.
FWC say the closure will help ensure that fishermen don’t pass the annual
federal recreational quota which will help protect and rebuild the greater
amberjack population.
The Commission voted to keep the recreational red grouper season open in
state waters even though the federal season has closed.
Instead fishermen in Florida waters will have a reduced bag limit from
four to two fish.
