7 companies bid on Franklin County GIS project

7 companies from around Florida have bid on a project to add another layer of GIS mapping to the County’s property maps.
GIS stands for geographic information system; it can show many different kinds of data on one map.
Alan Pierce said the project will add a single layer of GIS data on flood plains and other information not currently available on the property appraiser’s maps.
The information would also be linked to the Franklin county website to make it easy to access.
The project is being funded through a 25 thousand dollar grant from the Department of Economic opportunity.
7 companies, include Bay Media in Apalachicola have provided their qualifications for the job.

Their qualifications will be considered by a committee which will then make a recommendation to the county commission for a final decision.
