The St. Joseph Bay State Buffer Preserve offers a series of free educational presentations called “Nature-Nauts,” which focus on exploring nature and how the preserve is kept pristine.
The December “Nature-Nauts” program will address intriguing facts about the preserve and the importance of prescribed fires in managing the preserve habitat while attendees make s’mores around a campfire. The March program will address the importance of the local watershed and how water flows through the preserve before heading into the bay. The final “Nature-Nauts” presentation will focus on the rare, endangered and threatened plants found within the preserve and how staff works to protect them.
The St. Joseph Bay State Buffer Preserve also offers educational opportunities through self-guided interpretative hiking trails, TRAM Tours and programs in the Visitor Center. For more information call 850-229-1787, Ext. 1, Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
