County Commissioners have agreed to
allow two monitoring wells to be placed on Bluff Road near Waddell Road to look
for possible groundwater contamination.
A company called Aerostar SES will place the temporary wells
in the Bluff Road right-of-way opposite Waddell Road.
Two other wells will be placed on Apalachicola Northern
Railroad property.
The company has been contracted by the Florida Department of
Environmental Protection to install the wells to monitor any possible
contamination from a former underground storage tank on the Apalachicola Northern
Railroad site.
Commissioner Smokey Parrish said a lot of people in that
area are on wells so it’s imperative that the county help with the monitoring to
make sure no one’s well is being contaminated.
Alan Pierce said this is a relatively common occurrence that
is done any time an older storage tank is removed from the ground.
