Florida Statehood Day
will be celebrated 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. ET Saturday, Feb. 27 at the
Constitution Convention State Park in Port St. Joe.
Honoring the Constitution
Convention held in 1838, which convened in Port St. Joe and led to Florida
becoming a state 171 years ago. The document was signed Jan. 11, 1839 and
Florida went on to become the 27th state on March 3, 1845.
During an open house at
the Constitution Convention Museum visitors will be able to trace, through
interactive displays, the path from territory to statehood.
In addition to the museum
open house, live music will be provided by Fish Lips and there will be food
from the Sand Bucket.
Stop by and visit local
historians, Beverly Douds and Marlene Womack, who will share historical
knowledge and have local history books for sale.
The Constitution
Convention Museum State Park is at 200 Allen Memorial Way in Port St. Joe.
The event is sponsored by
the Friends of St. Joseph Peninsula State Parks, Inc., a non-profit volunteer
group supporting St. Joseph Peninsula and Constitution Convention Museum State
Parks.
