Culpepper Construction out of Thomasville, Georgia
was selected this week to serve as Franklin County’s construction manager at
risk for the upcoming renovations to Weems Memorial Hospital.
The project will include
renovations to patient rooms as well as a 19 thousand square foot addition to
the hospital to provide space for additional lab and outpatient services.
The renovations will be funded
through a 10 and a half million dollar construction loan through the USDA Rural
development Community Facilities Direct and Guaranteed Loans Program.
Three companies were being
considered for the work – county commissioners interviewed all three companies
on Tuesday.
Commissioners said they felt all
three of the companies could do the job – but they could choose only one.
The decision to rank Culpepper as
the top firm was approved 4 to 1; District 1 commissioner Rick Watson opposed the
motion.
County attorney Michael Shuler
said he will now begin working on a contract with Culpepper.
If the two cannot reach an
agreement then he will start negotiations with the second ranked firm which is Ajax Building Company of Midway.
