Franklin County considers tipping fee increase at landfill

            County commissioners could raise the price of bringing trash to the local landfill.

The commission is considering a request from Waste Management to raise the tipping fee at the landfill by $2.57 a ton.

Waste Management manages the weigh station at the landfill, they said the additional money is needed to maintain the weigh station.

Last year the company spent 20 thousand dollars on a new pump system to control the water that runs through the site.

The company has a 5 year contract with Franklin County to manage the weigh station, the contract does not allow for price increases unless the county approves it first.

If the increase is approved, the cost to haul a ton of trash to the landfill would be $67.57.           

Commissioners tabled the request this week in order to collect more information but said they would revisit the issue again in two weeks.
