Franklin
County commissioners have agreed to allow the county road department help
construct a shooting range project west of Apalachicola.
Apalachicola
police officer Chase Rickards asked for county help to clear the site for the
shooting range on a little over 20 acres near Tilton Road and Highway 98.
The
road camp will also help move dirt from one location on the site to build berms
for the range.
Officer
Rickards said he will pay for the fuel for the vehicles if the county will
provide the manpower.
Rickards
is planning a facility that would not only provide a location to train local
police and residents but would also be used for shooting competitions and bring
in people from around the area.
The
facility would be named after Fred Earl Babb, the only Apalachicola police
officer ever killed in the line of duty.
