Wakulla County Veterans Services Office Announces Welcome Home Ceremony for Vietnam Veterans

Crawfordville, Florida – The Wakulla County Veterans Services Office in coordination with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4538 will be hosting the 1st Annual Welcome Home Ceremony for our Vietnam Veterans onSaturday, April 2, 2016 at 11:00a.m. at Hudson Park in Crawfordville, FL.

Unlike recent veterans of wartime service, Vietnam Veterans were not privy to Parades, Celebrations, or Ceremonies to welcome them back to their home soil.  The circumstances of the war, an unpopular public opinion made these veterans martyrs and forced many to separate from society and suffer mental and physical anguish in silence.  Today times and public support for wartime veterans are different.  These veterans have waited far too long for the proper thanks and appreciation they justly deserve.

As the number of Vietnam Veterans continues to decrease by an estimated 309 veterans a day, the time to say thank you for your service and welcome home is now.  “We ask that all that are willing take part in celebrating these hero’s and properly welcome them back to the country they supported and defended on foreign soil.  Please take part in making this a historic celebration of service for those who never received it,” said Harold Ross, Veterans Services Officer.

If you have a name of a Vietnam Veteran you would like to add to the list, please submit the name to the Wakulla County Veterans Services Office.  In addition, anyone who is interested in participating at the event, please contact Harold Ross, Wakulla County Veterans Services Officer at 926-1072 or e-mail @ hross@mywakulla.com no later than March 4, 2016
