NORTHWEST REGION
CASES
CALHOUN COUNTY

Officer Baber responded to a citizen complaint in which the complainant heard several shots at night behind a neighboring residence.  When the officer arrived at the suspect address, he saw two people cleaning a freshly killed doe deer behind the residence.  One of the suspects admitted to shooting the deer with a gun and light.  He was charged with taking deer at night with gun and light.  An AR-15 rifle and spotlight were seized as evidence.
ESCAMBIA COUNTY
Officer Allgood conducted several offshore patrols this week.  He conducted fisheries inspections and found two individuals to be possession of undersized greater amberjack and undersized grey triggerfish.  These individuals were issued a notice to appear citation for the violations.  Officer Allgood also issued several other boating safety and fisheries warnings.
JACKSON COUNTY
Officer Burkhead responded to a complaint in which a landowner was turkey hunting on his property when he saw a suspect trespassing on his property.  Officer Burkhead kept the landowner on the phone, accessed the property by foot, and was guided to the suspect while the landowner kept him under surveillance.  The suspect was charged with trespass.
Officer Forehand was conducting foot patrol off of Bedford Road when he identified an area with shelled corn and wheat. Officer Forehand returned to the area Sunday morning before daylight.  Just before daylight, three hunters came into the area and placed two turkey decoys.  Once they were set, they began calling turkey into the area. Officer Forehand allowed them to call for several minutes and then identified himself and approached the hunters.  All three hunters were set up approximately five yards from the corn and 30 yards from the wheat.  Appropriate citations were issued to all three.
OKALOOSA COUNTY
Officer Corbin was on vessel patrol conducting state and federal fisheries inspections in the Destin Pass/Destin Harbor and observed a charter boat returning to the harbor from a fishing trip.  A subsequent fisheries inspection revealed an undersized greater amberjack.  The operator/charter guide was issued a notice to appear citation for the violation.
Officer Pifer was on land patrol and observed a sailboat hard aground in the Santa Rosa Sound/Intracoastal Waterways on the shoreline of a city park.  It was determined a recent severe thunderstorm with high winds caused the sailboat to become hard aground.  The sailboat was determined to be in a derelict condition.  The sailboat did not have any propulsion ability due to the lack of a mast or motor.  The hull of the sailboat had standing water and the registered owner stated the hull was cracked.  The owner of the sailboat was contacted and was given ample time to remove the boat.  Officer Pifer completed the derelict vessel process and the owner was issued a notice to appear citation for allowing the boat to remain in a derelict condition.
COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING
JACKSON COUNTY
Lieutenant Ben Allen and Officer Burkhead conducted an alligator presentation at Grand Ridge High School during the school’s Ag Week.
