Patrol, Protect, Preserve
NORTHWEST REGION
CASES

FRANKLIN COUNTY

While conducting state park patrol at St. George Island State Park, Officers Miller and Raker conducted a resource inspection in a restricted access area.  During the inspection, it was determined that neither of the individuals were in possession of the required permit to access the area.  While taking the appropriate action for the violations, FWC Communications advised that one of the individuals had a confirmed active warrant in another county.  Officer Miller placed the individual in custody and later transported him to the Franklin County Jail.

While on land patrol at the Moorings Marina, Officers Miller, Nelson and Raker observed two vessels in violation of a no wake zone.  Officer Miller made contact with the operators of both vessels.  While conducting a boating safety inspection, Officer Miller observed signs of possible impairment to include the smell of alcoholic beverage coming from one of the operators.  After the operator completed the field sobriety tasks, it was determined the individual was impaired.  Officer Miller placed the subject in custody and later transported him to the Franklin County Jail where the individual provided breath samples over the lawful limit. Appropriate citations were also issued for boating safety violations.

While working in the Carrabelle area, Officer Nelson observed an offshore vessel pulling out of a boat ramp. Officer Nelson conducted a resource inspection of the vessel. During the inspection, one of the occupants attempted to pass a folded towel to one of the other occupants that didn’t appear right.  The officer observed the transfer and asked what was in the towel.  The individual opened the towel and a bag containing fish fillets fell onto the deck.  After a short interview, the subject admitted that the fish fillets were grouper and he knew he was not supposed to keep them.  Appropriate citations were issued for failure to land reef fish in whole condition.

LIBERTY COUNTY

Lieutenant Marlow and Officers Miller and Raker responded to a call for assistance to check on the wellbeing of an individual in the Apalachicola National Forest. With the assistance of FWC Communications Duty Officer Westmoreland, they were able to locate the individual in a timely manner.  The officers made contact with the individual, identified him, and confirmed his wellbeing.  The FWC Communications advised at that time the individual had five confirmed active warrants.  He was placed in custody and transported to the Liberty County Jail.

WALTON COUNTY

A four‑month investigation was brought to a close with the filing of multiple criminal charges. Two suspects were charged with multiple counts regarding commercial license violations, selling native redfish, unlawful harvest method and license requirements for mullet and others.  Information obtained by local patrol Officers Tison, Letcher, Arnette and Brooks was passed on to regional investigators who were able to further investigate the illegal activity of the subjects involved.
