Local electric customers will see a rate drop this month

Duke Energy Florida customers should see their rates drop beginning this month.
Because of lower than projected natural gas costs, electric rates will drop by $5.83 for 1000 kilowatt hours of electricity – the new price is $108.32 for residential customers.

Business customers will see similar rate reductions depending on a number of factors including rate class and type of service.
A typical commercial customer will see as much as an 8 percent reduction.
Industrial customers will see a 6 to 11 percent reduction, depending on the customer’s service.

Duke Energy said this is the fourth rate cut in three years and added that customers will be paying about 21 percent less for electricity than they were in January 2009.
