Weems Memorial ambulance hit by log truck

                 A Weems memorial Hospital ambulance carrying a patient and two ambulance personnel was involved in an accident with a log truck in Gulf County on Tuesday.
The ambulance was on Highway 98 at Beacon Hill Beach heading toward Bay County just before noon.
The ambulance was transporting a 72 year old woman from Eastpoint.
The log truck was heading east on Highway 98 when it came to traffic stopped in the eastbound lane.
The driver of the log truck slammed on the brakes and the unloaded log truck jackknifed into the westbound lane directly into the ambulance’s path.
The patient in the ambulance was critically injured and transported to Gulf Coast Hospital in Panama City.
Neither of the ambulance workers were injured in the crash; the driver of the log truck, 49 year old Valarie Lillard of Fountain, Florida received only minor injuries.
Lillard was charged with careless driving and the highway patrol said they are investigating whether the driver had been drinking.
The Highway patrol estimated damage to the ambulance at 280 thousand dollars.
Highway 98 was closed for 4 hours after the crash.
