A Weems memorial Hospital ambulance carrying a
patient and two ambulance personnel was involved in an accident with a log
truck in Gulf County on Tuesday.
The ambulance was on Highway 98 at
Beacon Hill Beach heading toward Bay County just before noon.
The ambulance was transporting a
72 year old woman from Eastpoint.
The log truck was heading east on
Highway 98 when it came to traffic stopped in the eastbound lane.
The driver of the log truck
slammed on the brakes and the unloaded log truck jackknifed into the westbound
lane directly into the ambulance’s path.
The patient in the ambulance was critically
injured and transported to Gulf Coast Hospital in Panama City.
Neither of the ambulance workers
were injured in the crash; the driver of the log truck, 49 year old Valarie

Lillard was charged with careless
driving and the highway patrol said they are investigating whether the driver
had been drinking.
The Highway patrol estimated
damage to the ambulance at 280 thousand dollars.

after the crash.
