Fishermen cited for electro-fishing on the Apalachicola River

Fish and wildlife officers busted a couple of people for electro-fishing in Gulf County last week.

Electro-fishing is when a shocking device is used to stun the fish so they can be lifted out of the water with a dip net.

It is illegal in Florida.

FWC officers were checking fishermen for fishing licenses when they caught the three men on the Apalachicola River.

An inspection of the boat found numerous flathead catfish but no fishing poles.

There was, however, an extension cord with a chain tied to it which is commonly used to shock fish.

The men admitted to catching the fish with a shocking device.

Their fish were confiscated and each of the adults received citations for taking freshwater fish by an unlawful method.
