A public meeting for the
Gulf County Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) will occur on May 12,
2016 at 1:00 pm Eastern. The meeting will be held in the Gulf
County Administration Complex Emergency Operations Center located at 1000 Cecil
G. Costin, Sr. Blvd., Port St. Joe. The meeting is open to the public.
The Gulf County HCP is a federal permitting process administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service pursuant to the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The goal of the HCP is to facilitate compliance with the ESA for projects that may affect four species of sea turtles, two birds (piping plover and red knot), and the St. Andrew beach mouse, which are federally endangered or threatened species occurring in coastal areas of Gulf County.
The Gulf County HCP will apply to proposed new projects on the St. Joseph Peninsula between the State Park and Eglin Air Force Base, on lands east of Eglin Air Force Base to Indian Pass and waterward of Highways 30 A, B & E, on parcels waterward of Highway 98 in the unincorporated Beacon Hill and St. Joe Beach areas, and in the St. Joseph Shores neighborhood. Anyone who would like to learn more about the HCP is encouraged to attend the Steering Committee meeting on May 12th and to visit the website below.
Additional information and a draft copy of the HCP document under development may be reviewed at the Gulf County website. Comments or questions regarding the draft document may be submitted at the public meeting.
