Bars in the unincorporated areas
of Franklin County can now sell alcohol for an extra hour a day during the
tourist season.
Franklin county commissioners
this week agreed to allow bars to sell alcohol until 1 AM on weekdays from May
30th through September the 5th.
Until now alcohol sales had to
end at midnight on weekdays year round.
Bars will
continue to be able to sell alcohol until 2 AM on weekends year-round and on
certain holidays including Christmas, New Years
Eve, Memorial Day, and Thanksgiving.
The
board also approved penalties for establishments that violate the alcohol sales
hours.
It
turns out there were no penalties in the previous rule.
The
first violation of the ordinance will receive a civil penalty of $1,000, the
second violation a penalty of $2,500 and subsequent violations will be
prosecuted as a first-degree misdemeanor.
