Franklin County Commissioners
agreed last week to allow Duke Energy to stage equipment at the airport in
Apalachicola during emergency situations like hurricanes.
The agreement continues a
contract that expired last December.
It allows Duke Energy to stage up
to 350 pieces of equipment.
County Attorney Michael Shuler
said the only change to the agreement is that instead of staging the equipment
on a grassy field on Airport Road, the new contract will allow Duke Energy to
use the concrete apron at the airport.
The airport manager also recommended
approval.
County Commissioner Smokey
Parrish called the agreement a very good thing that should help the company
restore power more quickly to residents in the county.
Michael Shuler said he is working
on a similar agreement for the eastern end of the county so more equipment can
be staged near Carrabelle during emergencies.
