“Red” Sizemore is honored as Grand Marshall in 12th Annual Red, White and Blue Parade

Grab your bicycles, wagons, golf carts, sneakers, whatever your mode of transport, and meet your friends in Lafayette Park between 6 and 6:30 pm on Sunday, July 3rd.

Franklin’s Promise Coalition will provide streamers and balloons for everyone to  decorate. Placards will be available for participants to display the name of thier honored veteran.

For the 12th year’s parade, the community will honor a distinguished military veteran for their service, not just to our great country, but to our local community as well.  This year, Elgin Emerson (Red) Sizemore will be honored as the Parade Grand Marshall. Sizemore served in World War II in the Navy with the 1275th Small Craft Division where he escorted American and British ships through the Panama Canal into the Pacific Ocean. After returning to Apalachicola he owned and operated Sizemore’s Hardware with his father. At 92 years young, “Red” is well beloved by his community, and you can still find him in Ace Hardware a couple of mornings each week.

If you want to watch the parade, the procession will travel down Avenue D, go under the bridge at Battery Park and proceed down Water Street to Riverfront Park for the Ice Cream Social at 7pm.

The parade and ice cream social is provided by Franklin’s Promise Coalition and the Crew of the Conservation Corps of the Forgotten Coast. Any Questions, Contact Joe Taylor, Franklin’s Promise Coalition, 850-323-0176.
