The City of Carrabelle will hold
a groundbreaking at the Carrabelle airport on Wednesday to kick off a Fuel
tank relocation project.
The fuel tank relocation is
the beginning of improving and expanding the airport to accommodate the
increase in usage they are experiencing.
The Carrabelle Airport fuel system
tank holds 6,000 gallons of fuel but the system has been inactive for over two
years.
The fuel system’s present location can
cause congestion on the airport apron which poses a safety concern.
The new location on the southeast
corner of the taxiway will allow for aircraft to refuel without interfering
with other aircraft operations.
The cost of this project will be
approximately $250,000.
It is estimated the project will take
45-60 days to complete.
A Company called RAM Construction will
do the work.
The company will also renovate the six hangars
at the Carrabelle Airport.
Those renovations will include
repairing the roof and roof insulation, installing new electrical wiring, new
hangar doors, and some needed structural repair.
Once the Fuel System Relocation Project
is finished, a new hangar will be built where the fuel system is currently
located.
The groundbreaking is scheduled to
start at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and it is open to the public.
A number of state and local
representatives have been invited to attend the event.
