Franklin County considers memorial for firefighters and law enforcement

County commissioners are considering a proposal to create a memorial for fallen firefighters and law enforcement officers.
The board agreed last week to start looking at possible locations for a memorial.
The topic was raised during a conversation about the Brotherhood Riders, a group of firefighters, law enforcement officers and EMS medical personnel who biked across Florida this month to honor emergency first responders who have died in the line of duty.
Commissioners said that while the group biked through Franklin County they added two local officers to their list, John Patton and Fred Babbs.
Apalachicola resident Ashley Teat said it would be nice to recognize those local people who have put their safety on the line for others – he recommended possibly putting the memorial at the newly acquired Els Court property east of Carrabelle.

Commissioners said they would begin looking at the proposal more closely.
