Gulf County authorities investigating death on the Apalachicola River

On Sunday, July 31, 2016, the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) received a missing person complaint in the 100 block of Lazy Day Drive in the
Douglas Landing area of Dalkeith. Deputies responded to the scene and met with the complainant who reported his brother Michael Eugene McArdle (56) was missing. The complainant reported the night before he and his brother were on their houseboat and both went to bed at approximately 8:30 pm. The complainant further stated when he woke up the following morning his brother was not on the houseboat but all of his personal belongings were still present. The complainant started looking for his brother, checking with neighbors but no one had seen him. The complainant then noticed a broken board on the houseboat and feared his brother may have fallen in the water.

Wewahitchka Search & Rescue was notified and responded to the scene with divers. The dive team was delayed going into the water due to inclement weather conditions with lighting present. Once the weather cleared divers began their search locating the body of McArdle at approximately 4:46 pm. The Medical Examiner’s Office (MEO) took jurisdiction of the body. The body was transported to the MEO where an autopsy is scheduled for later today. This case remains under investigation.
