Americans ate more seafood in 2015

Americans ate more seafood in 2015.

According to a newly released federal report on Fisheries landings and seafood consumption, Americans ate almost 15 and a half pounds of fish and shellfish per person.

America now ranks as the second largest global consumer of fish and shellfish after China.

Roughly 83 percent of our seafood was imported last year.

U.S. consumers spent an estimated $96.0 billion dollars on seafood in 2015.

That includes nearly 65 billion at restaurants and 31 billion dollars for home consumption.
