Nov. 3rd Doyle Conner, Jr. Program

Dear WCHS Members and Friends,

Please see the information below from Helen Strickland.  You will not want to miss this program.  See you Thursday, Nov. 3, 6:30 PM at the Wakulla County Public Library.

Doyle Conner, Jr. Cracker Historian, Poet and Storyteller will be the featured speaker at the Nov. 3 Genealogy Program.

Doyle Conner, Jr. has studied, researched and shared Florida's cow history for more than 20 years, throughout the United States.  He was the curator of the Florida Agricultural Museum and is a sixth-generation Floridian.  He has been interviewed by countless shows and magazines about his knowledge of the state heritage.

He is an engaging storyteller, poet, singer, and his programs are entertaining and educational.  His ability to describe the realities of the Florida frontier, the old Florida cow hunters, and the 150 year growth of the cattle industry in Florida brings it all to life.

Doyle was the chairman of "The Great Florida Cattle Drive of 95".  The cow hunters drove 1000 head of Spanish type cattle across Florida in order to celebrate 150 years of statehood.  There were 600 riders and 25 wagons in this drive, which was repeated in 2006 and scheduled again for 2016.

Learn about the Florida Crackers and the stories of their whips to move the cattle.

If you have any cowboy or ranch items that you would like to ask Doyle about, feel free to bring them.  He loves to talk about these old items, which he has spent his life collecting, researching and restoring.  He will be bringing some of his personal collection to share with us.

You don't want to miss this program.  It will be in the Wakulla County Public Library, 6:30 pm on Thursday, November 3.
