Election results for Franklin County, Florida

 Over 84 percent of Franklin County's voters cast a ballot in Tuesday's election, over half voted early or voted by mail.

There were some very important local elections this year.

Franklin county chose republican AJ Smith as the county's new sheriff.

He picked up 52.2 percent of the vote in a four candidate race, edging out Brad Segree who received about 43 percent of the vote.

Democrat Traci Moses was elected to serve as school Superintendent with with nearly 49 percent of the vote in a three person race.

Frank Stephens took about 37 percent of the vote in the school superintendent race and Stephanie Howze Jones a little over 14 percent.

Heather Crum Riley defeated sitting Supervisor of Elections Pinki Jackel with about 62 percent of the vote in that race.

Marcia Johnson will remain Franklin County's clerk of court.

She took over 66 percent of the vote to Penny Sutton's 33 percent.

District 1 voters elected Ricky Jones to the Franklin County Commission – he defeated sitting commissioner rick Watson with over 57 percent of the vote.

District 3 voters voted to keep incumbent Noah Lockley on the county commission.

He defeated challenger Jimmy Lashley with 76.6 percent of the vote in that race.

Franklin County voters also voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump for president – he had over 68 percent of the local vote compared to 28 percent for Hillary Clinton.

Franklin County also voted strongly for Marco Rubio for US Senate – he took over 65 percent of the local vote.

67 percent of local voters cast a ballot for Republican Neal Dunn for congress, 64 percent voted for republican Pete Williams for state attorney and 50.8 percent voted for democrat Bill Montford for state senator.

52 percent of Franklin County voted against Amendment 1 to the state constitution which dealt with solar power, while nearly 73 percent voted in favor of amendment 2 allowing for medicinal marijuana.


Local voters also voted overwhelmingly for constitutional amendments allowing for tax exemptions for disabled first responders and for senior citizens.
