Franklin
County is getting ready for little league football season.
On
Tuesday Franklin County commissioners agreed to buy some new shoulder
pads for the children taking part.
Darren
Turner from the Franklin County Little league football program told
county commissioners that the pads the kids used last year are at
least 2 years out of date and some are 10 years out of date putting
the players at risk of injury.
The
county rec department had already ordered 50 sets of new pads and
pants and agreed this week to buy 35 more sets.
The
board also agreed to upgrade the county's only youth football field
at the Will Kendrick Sports Complex with a place for the scorekeeper
to stand and the county will install gates at both ends of the field
so there is only one way to enter or exit.
That
will make it harder for people to sneak into the field without buying
a ticket.
