Calls from the public to our FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline hotline saves manatee lives. During this prolonged and severe red tide bloom, calls from the public reporting injured or stranded marine mammals are more important than ever. FWC biologists are responding to calls around the clock to reports of live and dead stranded manatees. A strong indicator that a manatee has been affected by red tide is consistent uncontrollable facial twitching and arching of their head and tail out of the water simultaneously. The public can help by reporting stressed or dead manatees to FWC's Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922, and pressing 7 to speak with an operator.
