Bay
scallop season closes today in Franklin County.
The
season closes today in waters from Franklin through northwest Taylor
County (including Carrabelle, Lanark and St. Marks.)
If
you still want to get some bay scallops there are still a few days
left to harvest in Gulf County waters.
The
St. Joe Bay will remain open for scalloping through September
30th - that includes all state waters from the Mexico Beach
Canal in Bay County through the westernmost point of St. Vincent
Island in Franklin County.
Last
summer, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
implemented staggered season start and end dates for bay scallop
harvest.
The
FWC wants public feedback on the staggered season structure before
deciding how to manage the season in the future.
You
can Share your comments on what you would like to see for a
future season structure at MyFWC.com/SaltwaterComments.
You
can also help FWC’s scallop researchers by completing an online
survey indicating where they harvested scallops, how many they
collected and how long it took to harvest them.
