Rock By The Sea "Lite" September 20-22 There are a number of music events lined up throughout the county this fall. On September 20-22 St. George Island's Harry A’s will host The Rock By the Sea Lite Charity Music Fest featuring artists including Steve Everett, Boo Radley, The Brown Goose, The Currys, Meaghan Farrell, Mentz, Tobacco Road Band and more.
In Apalachicola, several venues feature standing weekly entertainment opportunities. On October 5-7, the Bowery Station and Oyster City Brewing Company team up to host the area’s annual ApalachOktoberfest. This year’s three day event will feature great beer, eats, and live music from acclaimed bands including The Mulligan Brothers, The Bo Spring Band, Clayton Mathis, The Turkeybasters, Johnny Barbato, and Ten Pound Pancake, Boo Radley, The Currys, Matt Law and the Usual Suspects, Sticky Too, and Shaw Davis and the Black Ties.

Apalach Farmers Market September 8, 22This local favorite is held the second and fourth Saturday of each month at the Mill Pond Pavillion at the Scipio Creek Marina in Apalachicola. Lighthouse Climb September 24 The St. George Lighthouse will host a full moon climb September 24 from 7:30-9 pm. Climb to the top of the Cape St. George Light to watch the sunset and the rise of the full moon. The Sunset/Full Moon Climb includes light hors d'oeuvres and a sparkling cider toast to the full moon. Cost is $10 for the general public and $5 for members of the St. George Lighthouse Association.

Coastal Cleanup September 15 On Saturday, September 15, The Apalachicola Riverkeeper organization, along with the Franklin County Departments of Parks & Recreation and Solid Waste & Recycling will host the 2018 Annual International Coast Cleanup in Franklin County. The cleanup, which covers the entire county from Alligator Point to west of Apalachicola is part of what is billed as the the world's largest volunteer effort to help protect our oceans, lakes and rivers. The event runs from 8:30am to 11:30am at 17 locations in Franklin County and an 18th location at Saint Vincent NWR. Event coordinators provide trash bags, T-shirts, gloves, water, snacks, and data cards. Volunteers should bring sunscreen, bug spray, protective clothing, and sturdy shoes. Bay Day September 28 The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve (ANERR) will celebrate National Estuaries Day on Friday, September 28, in Eastpoint, Florida. The first 600 visitors will receive a free t-shirt. Activities include free, fun and educational stations for kids and adults including marine animal touch tanks, and estuary-themed games, including Microplastic Match-Up, Reptile Round-Up and Pin the Tag on the Monarch.
Attendees can also tour ANERR’s 5,400 square-foot Nature Center with its three large aquariums filled with local estuarine and marine life, an 80-foot long mural depicting the area ecosystems, and a hands-on Bay Discovery Room. The Sea Turtles of the Forgotten Coast exhibit, also on display in the Nature Center, shows videos of nesting sea turtles and hatchlings and demonstrates what responsible beach residents can do to help sea turtles.

Panhandle Players Present Secrets & Sweet Tea October 19-21 The Panhandle Players will present Secrets & Sweet Tea October 19-21 in Apalachicola. The play is a southern comedy that takes place at the wake of Samuel Strainwhistle, a local Apalachicola millionaire. Various residents come to pay their respects, each hoping that Samuel has left a little something in his will for them. As the show progresses everyone learns the true secrets of these Apalachicola mourners.

Lantern Fest October 20Plan to attend the 2018 annual Lantern Fest on Saturday, October 20at the Crooked River Lighthouse at Carrabelle Beach. Bring a lantern and add to the glow in celebration of the Crooked River Lighthouse's 123rd birthday! Shipwreck tales & local lore, glowing lanterns, music, dance and night time tower climbs bring magic & history together. This festival, best known for its breathtaking display of over a hundred colorful and handmade lanterns, lights up the night with magic and history at the 1895 maritime landmark. This evening of music, dance, night tower climbs, glowing lanterns and yummy food is truly a fitting way to honor of the 123rd birthday of the Crooked River Lighthouse!

Guided Tours of St. Vincent Oct. 9-12 The Friends of St. Vincent will host a week’s worth of fun Fall activities as part of its Wild Week Guided Tours October 9-12. The four day event, which will take palce on St. Vincent Island, will feature different activities each day including a guided tour with environmental speakers and a beachcombing tour, a tour and lesson on how to throw a cast/sein net a trail bike tour. The wild week events are free but you must register. The Friends of St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge also has several volunteer opportunities currently available for people interested in learning more about the island and volunteering their time to important activities there including red wolf tracking, sea turtle nesting, tour narrators and drivers, office help and grant writing.

Museum Day in CarrabelleSeptember 22 On Saturday, September 22, all three of Carrabelle’s museums will open their doors free of charge as part of Smithsonian Magazine’s 14th annual Museum Day. This national celebration honors museums that follow the example of the Smithsonian with free admission. In salute to this day, Camp Gordon Johnston WW II Museum, Carrabelle History Museum, and Crooked River Lighthouse Museum will also have extended hours from 10-5 pm and special activities and exhibits including WWII military vehicles, a newly expanded Native Peoples exhibit and 103-foot tower climbs. St. James Bay Hosts Fall Activities The St. James Bay Golf Resort east of Carrabelle will host a variety of events this month including fitness classes, live music, trivia Night and Bingo. On Saturday September 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 you can join a Power Strength & Sculpting Fitness class from 9-10 a.m. On Tuesday September 4, 11, 18 and 25 you can join a Core & Stability Fitness class from 3-4 pm. Thursday nights on September 6 and 20 are Bingo nights from 6-8 pmand enjoy Trivia Night on September 13 from 5:30-8 pm.

Charity Boat Poker Run September 15 On Saturday, September 15, the Epilepsy Association of the Big Bend will host the “Amazing Boat Poker Run and VIP After Party” at the Sunset Isle RV and Yacht Club on Carrabelle’s Timber Island. Paddlejam Oct 5-7The fall version of the Apalachicola Paddlejam festival will be held October 5-7 in Apalachicola and on St. George Island. This three day festival celebrates the Forgotten Coast through paddle sports, muisic and food. The highlight of the event will be an attempt by paddlers to break the world record for the largest floating kayak raft.

Forgotten Coast Cruisers Car Show and Gumbo Cookoff Oct. 20The Forgotten Coast Cruisers will host its 3rd Annual Car Show and Gumbo Cookoff on October 20 from 10am to 3pm at the Red Pirate Family Grill & Oyster Bar in Eastpoint. This year’s event will benefit fthe Franklin Fire Victim Relief Fund.

Autos and Oysters Car Show Oct. 27The Apalachicola Main Street will present its annual Autos and Oysters Car Show on Saturday, October 27. The show will be held on Water Street from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Enjoy a fabulous lineup of cars, fresh oysters and hotdogs in beautiful Riverfront Park, music and more! Awards will be given for the Top 50, Best of Show, Club Participation, Greatest Distance Travelled, and Sponsor’s Choice.

Ghostwalk Oct. 27Hauntings will abound at Apalachicola's Chestnut Street Cemetery on Saturday, October 27 when local history enthusiasts don the garb and take on the persona of the cemetery's more notable inhabitants to tell their tale of life in Apalachicola more than 100 years ago. The Ghostwalk will be held 6:30-8:30 pm.at the Chestnut Street Cemetery on Hwy 98 in Apalachicola.
