The
Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce has selected Mike Cates as its
Volunteer of the Year.
This
is National Volunteer Week and every year the chamber of commerce
highlights volunteers who give of their time and skills to make
others’ lives better.
Mike
Cates is the owner of Cates Electric in Eastpoint – he was
recognized at a surprise, socially distanced ceremony at the
Apalachicola Seafood Grille.
There
are very few groups in the area who have not been helped be Mike at
some point or another including local schools and the Florida Seafood
Festival among many others.
Chamber
president John Solomon said“Mike Cates for years has donated his
time in Franklin County to the community in various ways, and we
congratulate him on being chosen this year’s Volunteer of the
Year.”
He
also thanked every volunteer in the community for what they give of
themselves and encouraged others to thank them and volunteer with
them.
County
and City governments also recognized local volunteers with
proclamations; Apalachicola Mayor Kevin Begos went as far as writing
a letter thanking volunteers.
