Apalachicola National Forest reopens day-use areas

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., May 20, 2020 – The USDA Forest Service will open Springhill Motorcycle Trail and Trout Pond Recreation Area on the Apalachicola National Forest at 8:00 a.m., Thursday, May 21.

The facilities at Springhill Motorcycle trail and Trout Pond recreation area will be completely open. The current operations plan for both sites will require closures until 10 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays until further notice. Please remember to avoid congregating at trailheads and parking areas and refrain from gathering in groups of ten or more.

“We are committed to providing customer service and advancing recreation opportunities while monitoring health data and state orders,” said Forest Supervisor Kelly Russell of the National Forests in Florida. “Our hope is, that this Memorial Day weekend will bring families together on their National Forest lands so they can reconnect, reflect and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.”

The Apalachicola National Forest continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation. Please remember to review current recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention along with local and state guidelines for social distancing and cloth face coverings.
