Franklin County commissioners voted this month to suspend its planning and zoning board and Board of Adjustment

Franklin County commissioners voted this month to suspend its planning and zoning board and Board of Adjustment for three months and pass their responsibilities to the County planner.

The action was taken because the P and Z and Board of Adjustment had canceled their meetings in April and May because of the COVID-19 pandemic and were not planning to meet in June either.

To insure that the work gets done the county attorney created an emergency ordinance that would temporarily suspends the P&Z and Board of Adjustment meetings and gives County Planner Mark Curenton the power and duties of both Boards.

Commission Chairman Noah Lockley said he feels Curenton should get a bump in pay while he takes on the additional responsibilities – that issue will be discussed a future commission meeting.

The ordinance was approved unanimously and took effect on May the 19th.

The ordinance will sunset on August 18th unless the county decides to extend it.
