The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is considering some regulation changes for the flounder fishery

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is considering some regulation changes for the flounder fishery and would like to hear from people who catch flounder.

A stock status update suggests that the flounder fishery statewide has been in a general declining trend in recent years and is likely overfished and undergoing overfishing on the Atlantic coast of Florida.

Potential regulation changes include reducing the recreational bag limit from 10 fish to five fish per person and increasing the minimum size limit from 12 inches to 14 inches in the recreational and commercial fishery.

They are also considering establishing a November closure for both recreational and commercial fishing, establishing a commercial vessel limit of 150 flounder when using allowable gear and extend all FWC flounder regulations into federal waters.

FWC will hold two virtual flounder workshops next week to gather public input about management of the flounder fishery.

These workshops will start at 6 p.m., Eastern Time on June 2nd and June 4th.
