The Gulf of Mexico shrimp harvest was
down in April.
Last month, 2.2 million pounds of
shrimp were landed by commercial fishermen in the Gulf of Mexico.
This was the third consecutive year of
decline for the month of April – it was 18.5 percent below the
prior eighteen-year historical average for April of 2.8 million
pounds.
About 200 thousand pounds of shrimp was
landed on the West Coast of Florida which was the lowest amount
reported in the past nineteen years for any April.
10.4 million pounds of shrimp have been
landed in the Gulf of Mexico during the first four months of the year
which is up from 9.5 million pounds in 2019.
