Two
of the biggest fireworks shows in Franklin County will not happen
this 4th of July.
The
City of Carrabelle voted last week to cancel their annual Fourth of
July Fireworks display this year amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Apalachicola
MainStreet said they are delaying theirs until September.
For
Carrabelle, the issue came down to liability due to the ongoing
COVID-19 pandemic.
The
City’s insurance coverage has an exclusion clause for liability for
all communicable disease and the City would not be able to enforce
CDC guidelines for social distancing or for the Governor’s most
recent Executive Order calling for gatherings of no more than 50
people.
Apalachicola
Main Street is postponing its Independence Eve Celebration, normally
held on July 3rd each year.
Main
Street is currently making plans to move this event to Labor Day
weekend, to be held on Saturday, September 5.
The
annual event has been recognized as an Outstanding Special Event by
the Florida Secretary of State and named one of the Top 12 Fireworks
Events in Florida.
The
event draws 8,000 people, making it the largest single-day event in
the county.
