Bunny Hop Bingo a Spring Success!

Hoppenings in Apalachicola!

The Easter Bunny arrived in style to the grand finale of the Apalachicola Bunny Hop Bingo event on March 30, 2021. Special thanks to Bruce Hoffman with the Apalachicola Volunteer Fire Department for the special transport to the Apalachicola Margaret Key Library.
It was an exciting entrance, with kids and adults anxious to meet and pose with the guest of honor who was hopping around the parking lot with a basket filled with treats.  Our sincere appreciation goes out to Penny Marler for bringing the bunny to life with great energy and cheer, and drawing the winning Bingo cards.

We were overjoyed to see families enjoying this adventure which started on March 15th, as they visited 24 “bunny” stops throughout the Apalachicola Historic District.  Many were visiting the area during the event period and happily joined in on the hop! Gift bags filled with books, prizes, and treats were awarded to any child that completed a row of questions on the Bunny Bingo Card. The adventure was not lost on the seniors in our community; as they too wanted to play and a special card was created with its own unique set of questions.

A total of 85 Bunny Bingo Cards were picked up from the library. Gift bags filled with books, prizes, and treats were awarded to any child that completed a row of 5 questions.

Sixteen special prizes were awarded, including 12 Easter Baskets loaded with candy and toys and 4 Razor Scooters!

The Bunny Hop Team wishes to thank all of the participating businesses, churches, and historic attractions for embracing this alternative to our traditional Easter Egg Hunt held at the Orman House/Chapman Botanical Garden. We anticipate the hunt to return in Spring 2022 and welcome volunteers to sign up early next year. A big shout out to Oyster Radio for promoting the event from beginning to end and to those that shared with friends and followers on social media, we thank you!
This event was presented by Apalachicola Main Street, Inc., Apalachicola Margaret Key Library & Bring Me a Book Franklin. We want to give special recognition to our Bunny Team Leader and Main Street Board member, Leslie McWilliams, who had the vision and inspired board members Patricia Murphy and Susan Oakes to climb aboard the Bunny Hop adventure.
Joined by community volunteers Susan Bachrach, Liz Fitzhugh, Sandi Garrett Little, and Mollie Hill, Carrie Kienzle, the Apalachicola Margaret Key Library and valued volunteers, we are sincerely grateful for your time and support of this year’s Spring event.
Many special thanks to our partner, Bring Me A Book Franklin for donating the books for the gift bags and to Karen Kessel, who makes reading a lot of fun.

A big Thank You to all of the participants, partners, volunteers, and donors!
